NACHO privacy policy
Last updated: 28 October 2026
NACHO is a desktop app for Windows and Linux. It runs on your own computer. It has no server and no account of its own, and its maker receives no data from it.
Pictures and files on your computer
NACHO reads the files you give it and writes smaller copies to a folder on your computer (Pictures\Docs-Ready unless you choose another). Nothing is uploaded, except as described under Google Docs below.
Google Docs
NACHO uses your Google account only when you choose "Shrink a Google Doc" or "Choose in Google Drive" for a Word file, and sign in. You sign in on Google's own page in your browser; NACHO never sees your password.
NACHO asks Google for one permission: "See, edit, create and delete only the specific Google Drive files that you use with this app" (drive.file). That covers:
- the Google Doc you choose in Google's file picker, which NACHO reads;
- a copy of that Doc, which Google makes in your Drive (same folder) when you choose "Into a new copy", the default. NACHO replaces each picture in the copy with a smaller one, keeping its place and size, and does not change the original. If you choose "Into this Doc" instead, NACHO replaces the pictures in the Doc itself; and
- the Word files (.docx) you choose in Google's file picker, which NACHO downloads to your computer. With "Into a new copy", the default, NACHO uploads the smaller file as a new file in the same folder (or in My Drive if it can't add files there) and does not change the original. With "Into this file", NACHO uploads the smaller file as a new version of the same file; Google Drive keeps the old version in Manage versions; and
- temporary picture files NACHO creates in your Drive. Each is shared as "anyone with the link" for a few seconds, so Google Docs can copy it into your Doc, and then deleted.
NACHO cannot see any other file in your Drive.
How the data is handled
- The pictures of the Doc you choose are downloaded to your computer, made smaller there, and put into the copy (or, if you choose, back into the same Doc). NACHO never deletes a Doc.
- If you choose (it is on by default), copies of the original pictures are kept on your computer, in Docs-Ready\Google Docs originals, and a copy of a Word file changed in Drive is kept in Docs-Ready\Word originals. You can delete them at any time.
- Your sign-in (a refresh token) is stored only on your computer: encrypted for your Windows user, or on Linux in a file only your user can read. Signing out in NACHO deletes it and asks Google to revoke it.
- No data from your Google account is sent anywhere else, sold, shared, used for advertising, or used to train any AI or machine-learning model. NACHO keeps no other copy of your Docs or files.
- NACHO's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
You can remove NACHO's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/connections.
Update check
Once a day (you can turn it off in More options) NACHO asks GitHub's public API whether a newer release exists. The request carries only "NACHO/<version>" as its user agent.
